Being Contentby Kathy Kilgus I was taking trash up to the burning barrel, walking through four or five inches of heavy snow. The bags were light, but the snow still made the trip more difficult than usual. I began to long for Spring and warmer temperatures. Then I thought to myself, “Why is it, we always want something more?” We never seem to be happy and enjoy the moment at hand. When it’s blistering hot out, we are wishing for Fall. When we finish the chicken, we are wondering why we hadn’t ordered the beef. Just recently, I found the perfect purse. I had been shopping for years and hadn’t found anything that suited my purposes. Then, in Burlington Coat Factory, (yes, they really do have more than just coats!) I found it. After I brought it home, I debated back and forth with myself. Since it is the perfect purse, maybe I should go back up and buy a second in case this one wears out! Instead of enjoying the one I had, I was worrying about when it would wear out! Philippians 4:11-12 (NIV) says “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Next time you find yourself in the middle of Winter and wishing for Spring, remember to live in this moment, enjoy this moment and to “be content whatever the circumstance. “ |
